The DJI Spark was announced at the end of May 2017 and it instantly became a top-seller. Reason why, it’s the smallest drone DJI has ever made, and also the easiest one to fly. By allowing you to fly it via palm gestures, smartphone or remote controller, this drone basically removes the barrier for anyone who wants to fly a drone. On top of that, the quadcopter is packed with smart features and packs more than enough punch for the regular user.

The FlyMore Combo is a bundle that gives you plenty of accessories and a remote controller on top of the Spark selfie drone. It saves you roughly $200 and it’s quite a good deal if you plan to use your Spark a lot, and that’s also the reason why I opted for the FlyMore Combo in Sky Blue.

In today’s article, I’ll show you everything that you get in the bundle so you can see for yourself and decide whether it’s worth buying the standard version for $499 or this one for $699.

Without any further ado, let’s get to everything that you get in the DJI Spark FlyMore Combo bundle:

Unboxing the DJI Spark Fly More Combo

spark unboxing

The first thing you see after you open the package is two separate items – 1 shoulder bag filled with accessories and one small black styrofoam case.

The shoulder bag holds the AC charger and all of its cables, the propeller guards, the remote controller and the charging hub, which allows you to charge up to 3 batteries one after another. Everything is packed very nicely and it all seems super compact – you can literally take this shoulder bag everywhere you go, fit it in your carry-on luggage if you’re on a flight or simply throw it in your backpack. It’s very convenient.

The black styrofoam case is where the Spark lives – it greets you from the middle of the case with the propellers already installed – they’re foldable and do not require removing after usage. I really like the fact they’re always on, as putting propellers on and off is one of my least favorite things to do while traveling with a drone. Here, setting up everything is a breeze.

There is a set of spare propellers located in small black boxes both in front and behind the Spark – those are quite handy, so it’s nice to have them in the case itself. On the right side side of the aircraft, there’s a spare battery, while there’s also space for another one on the left, should you decide to get another one.

And that’s it – the case is super light and compact and can easily be transported anywhere without worrying something will snap, as it seems quite sturdy.

Connectivity

spark unboxing
With the FlyMore combo, you get a total of 2 batteries. Each battery can last up to 16 minutes in the air, so that gives you roughly half an hour to play with the Spark before you disconnect the batteries and throw them on the charger. You can use the charging hub which comes in the bundle – it will detect the battery with the highest charge and it will charge it first, making sure you are ready to fly as soon as possible. Only then it will continue to charge the other batteries you might have in the hub.

The good news is that you can use Power banks to charge the drone if you’re on the go and you don’t have access to a power outlet. This is perfect as this drone is made for active people who’re on the move, so charging on the fly really makes sense. I recommend getting a large power bank such as this one – it will allow you to charge your Spark at least 4-5 times without needing to recharge the power bank.

On the back of the drone there’s a slot for the micro SD-card, and also a micro-USB port for connecting the drone to your computer or using the USB cable to charge it directly. It’s all packed nice and neat and works really well.

Remote Controller

The remote controller is one of my favorite things about this drone – it really looks like the one from the Mavic Pro, and that’s why I like it so much! On top of the remote you can see the 2 foldable antennas, which give you a rough range of 1.2 miles (2km). However, depending on the flying conditions the flight range will differ.

On the top left side of the remote you have a return home button for getting your drone back to you easily. On the right there’s the power button for the remote, and in the middle there’s the button which toggles Sport mode on and off. On its left side you’ll see the pause button, which of course pauses your recording, and the FN key on the right could be programmed to do a function of your choice.

On the top of the remote you will find the video recording button, as well as the gimbal tilt button, a camera button and another programmable button. Overall, you’ve got plenty of choices how to configure and use the remote so it fits your flying style.

The Shoulder Bag

Just like I mentioned in the beginning of this article, it seems that everything has its own space in this bundle. That’s made possible thanks to the shoulder bag, which is surprisingly well-made and of high quality. I was very impressed the first time I got it in my hands, as the material of the exterior of the bag is quite soft and nice to the touch. The zippers are tight and solid, and give impression of high-quality material.

On the inside, the bag is super soft and provides enough protection for everything you throw inside. There’s a removable cushion separator, which can be adjusted depending on what you’re carrying inside. I prefer to keep my remote controller inside, as well as all the cables and chargers, and keep my Spark in its styrofoam case separately. I throw both of those in my backpack and I travel worry-free around the city with my drone.

In addition to the main pocket, there’s also a small front pocket in the bag for flat objects (such as the charging hub), which is convenient.

My impressions of the DJI Spark so far

I’ve only flown the Spark a couple of times, but I’m already impressed. The connection is super stable, the aircraft flies smooth and handles wind pretty well, and the video seems pretty good for a sub $800 selfie drone. It’s not a professional drone like the Phantom 4 Pro by any means, but for the casual flier it does the job more than well.

I’m looking forward to being able to play with it a lot more in the upcoming days so I can gather more insights.
