The GoPro Karma has had a rough time.
Ever since it was released just before the announce of the DJI Mavic Pro in September 2016, the aircraft seemed to be doomed – first it was not able to be purchased straight away. Instead, users had to pre-order the unit and wait for quite a long time for shipping. The pre-orders were quite low, and many of them were cancelled as soon as the Mavic Pro was announced (which was also available for purchase right after the live event). Then, once released, the Karma had tons of issues with units losing power while in the air. Approximately 2500 units were recalled and a refund program was introduced.
Now, a few months have passed and the Karma is ready to hit the shelves again. This time, better than before, hopefully ready to strike back against the Mavic Pro. But how well is it going to perform this time?
GoPro states that they’ve added latches to secure the battery – something that seemed to cause the problem in last year’s model. In addition, the newer model is quieter than before, and they have added some padding to prevent scratching on the arms of the drone.
In my opinion, this is far less than what should have been done to this aircraft, as it still falls short in features when compared to its main rival – the Mavic Pro from DJI. It seems that GoPro is trying hard to not fail again, but will they manage? I guess we’ll see soon.
Unfortunately, the GoPro Karma is still in pre-order state from it’s official website with no clear shipping date, but you can already order it from these sources:
Do you think there’s still hope for the Karma? Are you planning to get it or you’re leaning towards the Mavic?
